Referring to my Despatch No. 91
of the lat. April, 1905, I have the honour to transmit six
copies of the Report of the Superintendent of Victoria
Gaol for the year 1905.

The decrease as compared with the
previous year of 1,237 in the total number of admissions
into the Gaol is a satisfactory feature of the Report, and
of the 6,227 persons admitted during 1905, only 1,939 were
under sentence for criminal offences against 3,193 sentenc-
-ed for such offences in 1904. In this connection I should
mention that there was an error in the figure of 4,027
given in my last year's Despatch that number including
834 on remand etc. Of committals for non-criminal offences
in 1905 there were 221 more under the Prepared Opium
Ordinance and 195 more for the offence of fighting. The
